The Petoskey Stones

Well, The Petoskey stones are composed of petrified skeletons of Hexagonaria percarinata. This is a type of coral from coral reefs that once well covered all of what is now the state of Michigan, the USA, during the ancient Devonian period, around 350 million years ago. The Petoskey stones were molded as a result of glaciation, in which sheets of ice scrapped the bedrock, gathering up fragments, and then grinding off their uneven edges and putting them in the northwestern portion of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. Ultimately, Petoskey stones are just chunks of coral reef, and when they dry the stone look like normal limestone but when wet or polished, the characteristic mottled pattern of the six-sided coral fossils emerges.

This primeval fossil is bringing into being across the state of Michigan along lakeshores and rivers in sediments usually called the Traverse group. Meanwhile in 1965, the Petoskey stone is called Michigan’s official state stone. Therefore, more than 350 million years ago during the Devonian period, Michigan was quite dissimilar. Geologically, the region was located near the equator and covered by a warm, shallow, saltwater sea, wherever the colonial coral hexagonaria percarinata flourished with other marine life in tropical reefs. Moreover, then the earth’s plates moved and pushed Michigan north and above sea level. When glaciers came about two million years ago, the land was scraped and the fossils spread across the northern Lower Peninsula. The stone was named Petoskey because they are bringing into being in great profusion in the Petoskey area.

Well, the name Petoskey derives from “Petosegay”, the son of an 18th century Ottawa chief, and it means “rays of dawn” or “sunbeams of promise.” The city of Petoskey was also named after the same person. However few say, the coral pattern in the stone resembles sun rays radiating from small suns.

Hexagonaria percarinata comprises of firmly packed, six-sided corallites, which are the skeletons of the once-living organism. So, at the center of apiece corallite was the mouth, enclosed by tentacles that were used for collecting food and drawing the food into the mouth. Though, this dark spot, or the eye of the corallite, has been filled with silt or mud that petrified after falling into the openings. Calcite, silica and other minerals have swapped the original soft tissues, called polyps, in each cell.

Petoskey stones can be originate from the shores of Traverse City, north to the Charlevoix and Petoskey area, and across the state to Alpena, but the most popular place to hunt for them is at Lake Michigan beach. Spring is a good time to look for the stone after the ice has melted and uncovered specimens that they’ve pushed against the shore.

7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Created 15ft High Great Wall of New Zealand

Last month 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand has had a lasting effect of natural barriers of 15ft high wall across the landscape. In the north of Christchurch, the wall was created by the shift in the earth when massive earthquake hit southern hemisphere. After 14th November, it is first time that researchers have allowed to enter this area, when epicenter, discovered the massive Hadrian's Wall-like rock formation which had sprung up as well as roads and fencing displaying clearly how sections of the earth have shifted out of line.

These incredible images are shared by Dr Pedley, clearly showing that, striking hobbit-like idyllic green New Zealand countryside torn apart by the earthquake. So far, all roads beyond this point are closed and only passable by military vehicles. The scientist's progress and took these incredible pictures which show the earth itself has been warped and twisted by the effects of the gigantic earthquake. They were trying to find fault ruptures in the region around the original epicenter, not as flashy as the ruptures north of “Kaikoura” but an intricate 3km-wide zone of plentiful ruptures and associated structures, but it very rapidly got messy for infrastructure to the northeast.

Therefore, the amount of associated rock-fall, landslides and slumps were unbelievable. Thus, roads, fields and the sides of whole hills have also been disturbed with also further subtle lines showing just in the outline of disturbed grass and crops in the lush green New Zealand countryside. The force of the earth quake was so robust, even one landslide even created a dam on the Leader River. Source: CP

The Latest Airless Bike Tires, That Never Get Flat

The latest Airless Bike Tires That Will Never Get Flat, the tire is a thing that can ruin even the best bike trip. Though, riders can overlook dragging around their patch kits and pumps, because “Nexo” produced an airless tire to ensure they keep pedaling. The Flat-free tires aren’t new, however they weren’t extensively used because of poor rigidity and shock absorption, compared to the conventional ones.
The Utah-based company claims to have found a solution to these problems. The tires are made from poly-meter blends that are believed to offer not only a faultless balance of cushion and pliability, but sturdiness as well. The flat tires comes in two dissimilar shapes, tires can be mounted on existing wheels with a lifetime of up to 3,100 miles, and others, which replace the whole wheel set and last for up to 5,000 miles. Moreover, if that’s not sufficient, Nexo made their products from a single material, which makes recyclability indeed easy. Thus, considering that 10,000,000 tons of bike tires and tubes are waste every year, that’s surely a step in the right direction.

The Brilliant World of Mushroom

Yukio Takano a talented artist is well-versed in the whimsical art of “great mushrooming.” He’s mainly enthused by the environment and intrigued by the storybook-esque charm of toadstools; he pools found driftwood with synthetic materials to make charming and remarkably lifelike sculptures of glowing mushrooms.

The artist Takano’s fairytale-like fungi are as accurate as they are extremely gorgeous. Moreover, every sculpture is well composed of radiant mushrooms and a cast-off driftwood base from which they sprout. Hence the spores are handcrafted out of resin and fitted with hidden LED lights, which are controlled by a simple switch and powered by cleverly concealed batteries. Once lit, the mushrooms’ caps function as miniature lampshades, emitting a mild glow and softly enlightening their surroundings.

Furthermore, the enchanted mushrooms range in size, from large and bulky to subtle and delicate, and they come in a rainbow range of charming colors from soft blues and warm yellows to beaming reds and neon greens. He has also experimented with different caps, stems, and heights, exemplifying his in-depth interest in and complete knowledge of the brilliant world of fungi. Yukio Takano has been crafting and selling his bewitching models for many years. Unluckily, given their immensely delicate nature, he does not ship them abroad but you can still gaze upon the hypnotic, one-of-a-kind works below.
